First, environmental control is fundamental to resistor care. Resistors should be stored in a dry, ventilated environment to avoid moisture that can degrade insulation or cause metal oxidation. If the ambient humidity is high, it is recommended to use a moisture-proof cabinet or regularly inspect the surface condition of the resistor. Furthermore, keep the resistor away from high-temperature heat sources and areas with strong electromagnetic interference to prevent resistance value drift due to temperature fluctuations or external magnetic fields.

Second, regular cleaning is essential. Dust, oil, and other conductive impurities easily accumulate on the resistor surface, potentially causing local short circuits or poor contact. When cleaning, use anhydrous alcohol or a specialized electronic cleaner, and gently wipe with a soft brush or dust-free cloth, avoiding excessive force to damage the resistor body or pins. For precision resistors, extreme caution is required to prevent the cleaning agent from penetrating the internal structure.

Finally, inspection and testing are crucial steps in preventing failures. Regularly measure the resistance value with a multimeter and compare it to the nominal parameters to identify any abnormal deviations. If you notice excessive resistance drift or loose pins, replace or reinforce them promptly. For high-power resistors, also check the heat dissipation to ensure the operating temperature is within the rated range.

Finally, proper installation and operation can extend the life of the resistor. Avoid excessive bending of the pins during installation, and control the temperature and time during soldering to prevent high temperatures from damaging the resistor body. During circuit debugging, avoid overloading and ensure that the resistor operates within its rated power.
